Sia Responds To Pedophilia Backlash Of "Elastic Heart" Video

Sia took to social media late on Wednesday to respond to the criticism she received after the release of her "Elastic Heart" music video, which starred a nearly naked Shia LaBeouf alongside 12-year-old dancer Maddie Ziegler.  


Sia, 39, explained that she never intended to "upset anybody" with the clip of LaBeouf, 28, and a pre-teen Maddie dancing in a cage.

"I anticipated some "pedophelia!!!"" Sia wrote on her twitter account, noting: "Cries for this video. All I can say is Maddie and Shia are two of the only actors I felt could play these two warring "sia" self states." The singer added: "I apologize to those who feel triggered by #ElasticHeart My intention was to create some emotional content, not to upset anybody."

Just in case you don't know, Sia directed the artsy music video alongside Daniel Askill. The footage shows LaBeouf in flesh colored underwear and the "Dance Moms" star in a similarly bodysuit as they wrestle and crawl like trapped animals. The clip ends with Ziegler escaping through the cage's steel rails, while Shia desperately clings to her.

Many people have slammed the video after its release. "The elastic heart video is creepy. all I kept thinking was, "pedophile," one individual tweeted. Another claimed: "Sia's Elastic Heart video with Shia LeBeouf dancing with and touching a 12 year old girl is very uncomfortable to watch." 

Not everyone, however, found the clip upsetting. Many fans of the video supported Sia. One fan wrote: "the media is sexualizing the elastic heart video clip and saying sia is a sick pedophile. the video has NOTHING sexual, you're the sick one." Another pointed out: "I didnt really get any pedophile vibes from the Elastic Heart video. It seemt (sic) really artistic. People are so shallow and close minded".
